Old Photos Of Emt
I used to watch takeoffs and landings there as an early teenager. I became involved with the CAP unit which called EMT home, and was part of the work party that went to the Navy base at Pt. Hueneme to disassemble a surplus quanset hut and move it to a site near the southern end of the runway. I would like to see several photos depicting the several stages in the development of the airport. I seem to recall that the runway was lengthened once, then relocated one or two times due to insufficient room in the old location.
When I was a young Civil Air Patrol Cadet, I seem to recall a conversation with an adult who had been around the airport during and just after WWII who said that there was a real commotion when somebody landed and took off a surplus fighter plane (think he said a Corsair) there. He said also he couldn’t understand what all the hubbub was about because the field was plenty long enough, as it supposedly had been surveyed and laid out as adequate for a DC3.
