My first job as an aircraft mechanic was at Andrau airport working for a flight school called Able Aviation back in 1986. Its sad that there are no signs that an airport ever existed there. I took my FAA written tests at Harger Aviation, was the last hangar located on the north end of the field before you got to the control tower/restaurant. What a great time it was.
Andrau Airpark, Houston, TX
The Andrau Airpark on the west side of Houston, TX, was sold in 1998, and the property has since been developed. It was located southeast of the intersection of South Kirwood and Richmond Ave. My father, James M. Hoover, was the airport manager in 1951. At this time, there is no evidence that an airfield ever existed at this site.
My first job was at Sky Inn Restaurant which was located upstairs at Andrau Airpark ! I met some of the sweetest people there ! I enjoyed watching the small planes coming and going especially the Leer jets i think that’s what they were! I had the pleasure of making Deli trays for some of our customers before takeoff! Great memories. Sad to hear it’s not there any more.
