Newcastle International airport (NCL) is a popular airport providing a link from the North and South of England and it is also an international gateway for residents living in the North of England and visitors to the area. Located 6.4 miles (10 km) from the metropolitan city of Newcastle it is the perfect airport for getting to and around the city and for visiting the spectacular Northumberland National park and Scottish borders. The airport is easily accessible via public transport and via road, offering excellent car parking options.
Newcastle is a buzzing and thriving town full of plenty of things to do for the young and the old. The city is officially called Newcastle Upon Tyne as it was built around the River Tyne. The river divides Newcastle and Newcastle Gateshead which is considered a separate town. The two areas are linked by the world’s first and only tilting bridge for pedestrians and cyclists; the Gateshead Millenium bridge.
Visitors to Newcastle Upon Tyne must venture outside the city to view the dominating structure that is the Angel of the North. This 20 metres (66 feet) structure completed in 1998 is of a person with rectangular wings standing out straight which makes it look like an imposing angel. Created by Anthony Gormley, it is made from 200 tonnes of steel and has a wingspan of 54 metres. It represents the miners who worked in the North for 200 years and also is supposed to be a focus for visitor’s hopes and dream and the future.

Newcastle Airport
Newcastle Airport
Very friendly, small airport. Easy to get around, well laid out and lots of parking with a free pickup and drop off points.
I use Newcastle Airport at least once a year (twice if you count the return journey), and I always find it a perfect airport. The staff are friendly, it is well laid out and although some of the prices for food and drink are a little steep, it’s not as bad as most airports. One thing I would mention is that coming home, it took almost an hour to make it through security – three flights landing at the same time and they scan everyone’s passport.
