Do NOT trust the airports facilities to obtain your dirham from, if you only have major credit cards and/or debit cards (e.g. maestro). When my partner and I went with only our credit/debit cards after checking that the Menara Airport did in fact have several ATMs that accepted credit/debit cards plus exchange counters, the ATM’s were either not working, in Arabic with no English translation or threatened to eat our cards. It was not just us, it was everyone on the plane! The exchange counters, although advertising they accept major credit cards (we had a Mastercard), we were told by both counters in the arrivals terminal that they did not and then ignored when asked for help. Further pleas for help were given vague answers resulting in us ending up in the Departures Terminal at the information desk with no one there. Subsequently we had to bargain with a fellow from the car hire desk to have him personally drive us to an ATM within the city, obtain cash, drive us to our hotel and pay him 100 dirham, twice the usual amount for a taxi. Do not expect any customer service or help whatsoever and please, take pounds with you to change at the counter or take dirham with you, at least enough to get you to your hotel. This was an awful experience resulting in me standing in the middle of the arrivals terminal threatening blue murder if someone did not help us, in a very loud voice!
