A former British Military staging post abandoned by the British in 1976 due to economic problems. The runway is in an excellent state, and has the potential to be extended further. The Maldivian Government uses it now as a domestic airport. The signboard outside the terminal says "Gan International Airport". It has some basic facilities enough for larger aircraft. Runway lights are in good condition The airport can be utilized as a a major hub between East and West if someone takes an interest and develops it.
