Garissa Airstrip
Status Of Garisa Airport
I am a regular visitor of North Eastern part of Kenya and I can inform you that the airport has been recarpeted and cleared off the long grass. A fence and a small shelter has also been done. I was informed by the manager that even portable lights will be installed shortly to aid night landing. This is surely a major milestone for the airport and we hope very soon the air operators can consider making scheduled flights to this town. There is a lot of potential going by the recent survey that Garisa is the most peaceful town in East Africa.
Garissa Airport
I visited this airport or airstrip, whatever you call it, and its one of the recently built airstrips in Kenya’s north-eastern province. It is mainly used by military aircraft and NGO`s working down there to help the Somali refugees. All in all, it’s better than nothing.
I don`t like the location of this airstrip and barracks. The municipal council should relocate this airstrip from its present location to the outskirts of Garissa and convert the place to some other sorts of things like playground or shopping-center.
