Aoi Falconara
I have visited AOI two years ago while on a short visit to Italy. The airport was renovated few years back so we are looking at a pretty new facility now. It is a small regional airport and does not compare with bigger airports in terms of services and standards but it is quite welcoming upon arrival. Upon my arrival I soon realized that my luggage was somehow stuck in Germany (or maybe Toronto not sure), the AOI staff at the lost luggage counter was quite efficient and provided good service. I was finally able to get my luggage 24 hrs later, the airport did not offer a delivery service, therefore I had to drive some 50 Km to get back my suitcase. Another negative note is that the main souvenir store in the airport does not accept credit cards which I found quite surprising for an airport that claims to be "international". Two main car rental facilities are available on site (I believe Hertz and Avis). I rented a car from Hertz which was prepaid online from AutoEurope.ca and had no issue. All considered was a good experience!
First time I had used this airport. It is pretty good for a small airport. The investment recently has obviously made a marked improvement. I would be interested to know what they propose to do with the former arrivals building which sits between the departures and new arrivals building. The flight path in gives wonderful views over the Adriatic and especially of Ancona port and the Conero Regional Park beyond. We rented a car from Hertz (pre-booked) and this was simple and efficient. The access arrangements are a bit haphazard with the flyover from the Autostrada ending abruptly with the more local road network.
