Chennai International Airport Reviews (16)
Chennai is the Biggest Airport in the world and it is 3 times bigger than singapore airport and amsterdam schiphol airport and the climate in chennai airport is always very cool compare to any other airport in the world. Very important thing is food are easily available.
It’s still under slight construction. However, the Airport is well maintained and is definitely going to be one of the best airports in the country post the completion of the work. The staff here are very helpful and the security is at its best.

Toilet was not good
Crowded, Long Queues, Mass Traffic At Small Airport
The first impression was: no glimpse of any order, hundreds of people on every check-in counter, no information screens where which airline is checking in what flight etc. No discipline of most of the passengers, everybody seems to be the most privileged. Unexpected quick immigration and security control. Waiting areas in security section are clean but too small and confusing, announcements are not understandable due to noises of passengers. Snack bars in the security section only accept Indian currency – but it is not allowed to export Indian currency – a "Catch 22". The infrastructure around the airport: poor, construction areas, parking lots for pick-up cars on sand areas. The airport is definitely too small for the actual traffic to be handled.
Crowded; Poor Infrastructure And Discipline
If the people and long lines don’t get you the mosquitoes will. The entry is haphazard and many travellers just parked at the entrance with luggage carts and visitors blocking the way preventing others from getting in. Bureau of immigration was equally worse. 1 hour to clear departure. ‘No-no’ for families with children. I understand that there is construction of the new terminals as part of the expansion meanwhile nothing prevents authorities to streamline the current conditions and make it manageable. Traveled from other Indian cities Hyderabad (real nice) and Bangalore and had a very pleasant experience. Maybe because they are private?
Not Good
Chennai Airport is not good like other airports of India; even AMD Airport is better than MAA.
New Airport
Now, the Chennai airport has been improved a lot with facilities equal to western international airports with traditional welcomes. I could feel more secure here than at other Indian metro airports.
Not Clean
Chennai airport has been good point to transit South East Asia and Middle East; more passengers travel through this airport., but airport authority hasn’t maintained the airport well: clean inside but problems with outside lavatory.
Best And New Look
Really best service and clean. Now they are started to develop and make more facilities building hotels near airport, and metro service and local city buses. Chennai airport is the best in India.
Relatively Smooth Travelling To But Not So Much Travelling Out Of
Flying in to MAA is not the bad part but flying out of is [or at least used to be until 2006]. In the sense everything is manual and it takes at least a couple of hours to get to the gates from the entrance after you check in your baggage and clear customs. I have seen the treatment to be different when you fly European carriers as opposed to Arabian ones for some passengers. I have heard it has changed further now and for the better.
Passenger Friendly Airport
Chennai Airport is the most passenger friendly airport in South India. Connection to this airport is very easy: by road, rail and other means of road transportations. Very calm but one of the busiest airports in India.
I Think Chennai Airport Rocks
I did not have any problems landing on or departing from Chennai International Airport. The airport has the facility to place walkways close to your landing, so that you don’t have to take a crowded bus to the arrival area or departure area. I had horrid experiences in crowded buses and with customs in Mumbai and New Delhi airports. Among the three biggest cities of India, Chennai has the least hassles. Especially, when you have been on a flight of nearly 24 hours due to delays and missed connections, the last thing you would expect is hassles at the airport. Customs at the Chennai Airport is always friendly and efficient compared to Mumbai. Security is also friendly and efficient compared to the New Delhi airport. For the amount of air traffic that Chennai handles, in my opinion, Chennai airport totally rocks. I would rate it the best international airport in INDIA.
Growing!
Madras is my home town. Agreed ! We are a developing country, hence it would not be apt to compare our standards with the developed nations. Very optimistic that the Madras Airport will look much more better than the rest of the Indian airports. All said and done, we need to give time. Also every individual should have the responsibility to have it clean and green. Madras airport is well connected and thanks to the boom in the aviation sector, we have all walks of people using the airports and good connectivity like trains, bus and cabs make it easy commuting. People at the airport are always willing to help you and many a time very humble. Travelling to Madras is a pleasure. :-)
Not The Best But Definitely Not the Worst
Chennai Airport is situated somehow very close to the city. Unlike the KLIA (Malaysia), Chennai Airport can be accessed very easily from anywhere in the city. It’s not the best airport one can find but is definitely NOT the worse one. Transportation from the airport is quiet easy. One can easily get a cab/autorickshaw or walk down to plight a metro train. Customs of Chennai is far more better than any other Customs clearance in India.
One Of The Best Airports In India
Chennai City is my hometown as I was born there. Right now I am in the US and go Frequently to India. Chennai has the best customs in India. They are Friendly and understanding.
It’s good
