Gallery and Facts
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the principal airport serving Mumbai and the surrounding area. Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport is the second busiest in India with more than 30.5 passengers flying to or from their airport in 2012.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport is one of the only airports in the world to be based within the city’s official borough. The airport was formerly called Sahar International Airport as it neighbours Sahar and Sata Cruz within Mumbai.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport was named after the founder of the Indian or Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji. The Maratha were a powerful force across India and parts of Asia for nearly 150 years, (1674 – 1818).

Nice
I travelled to Mumbai last year and no good toilet facilities, no good services weer offered at the time but now when I travelled in March 2014 the Mumbai Airport was improved: toilets are clean, new Terminal 2 offers good services.
Great Airport with New Terminal
Problems Faced By Us
Whenever I returned from abroad, I had problems with getting trolleys. All were missing and after paying RS100 to a porter, a trolley was made available to me. Pathetic. It does not happen abroad. I don’t know what authorities are doing. I was informed by that porter that to get that posting they have to gibe bribes to their officers. It can happen only in India.
Best Airport Of India
Mumbai international airport is one of the best airports in India as compared to Hyderabad, Delhi and others. Due to the business and development of the airport, the airport stands in a good structure today. The worst airport I might have travelled should be the Hyderabad, where you don’t have proper bars or cafes at least before you check in. Once check-in is done in the morning then you have to wait till the morning 05:30 for the opening of the restaurant. Well, it’s disgusting. So I think it’s on of the worst airports in the jungle of Andra. It shouldn’t be ranked to any category!
BOM Airport
Last Friday, 15th of February 2013, I arrived to Mumbai national airport coming from Hyderabad. It took me 4 hours to get through to the International departure terminal and reach my flight back to Europe. I have been traveling for close to 30 years and this airport is the worst airport on earth. It is totally unorganized, no rules or signs are being followed and there are loads of totally unnecessary security checks. I will never, ever fly through this airport again if I can avoid it.
Security No Good
Tried contacting security for assistance and just can’t seem to reach them. This is a joke.
Staff Is Friendly And Services Are Excellant
BOM is the best airport in the country as per my knowledge. I have flew through BOM many times and I always had a good time there. The staff is quite friendly and over the years the airport services have improved a lot. The security system is one of the best in the world. Actually the airport should get an award. Despite of its small size it handles thousands of passengers daily without any worries. BOM rocks!
Extra Time For International Transfer
BOM is currently undergoing massive renovation. Only one runway is operational till March 2010. If you are transferring from a domestic flight to an international one, may god help you! This is because the domestic flights are parked at the international terminal, they then take you to the domestic arrival terminal which is at the other end of the runway (30-45 minutes by ground bus) collect your luggage, then come back to the international (another 30-45 minutes) after you collect your luggage, then you check in again! So allow an extra 2 hours plus 3 hrs if transferring at Mumbai esp if you do not have a through check-in.
Not Good
I had been to the Mumbai airport several times, every time I land at the airport there is some work going on. The system is not good, when we have to board a flight we have to walk for too long to the departure lounge. On the arrival we have to walk far too long to the immigration hall. This is not good, when we come to Mumbai we are tired of 4/5 hrs of the journey and then we had to carry a heavy hand baggage.
Bad Transit Procedure!
This has to be the worst airport in the world to change international flights! I arrived from Paris and had a connecting flight to Bangkok. NO TRANSFER DESKS AT ALL !! There’s some people in uniforms who take your passport and ticket away… and you have no way of knowing if you’re gonna get it back. Eventually, they came back with my boarding pass after couple of hours—it looked like they went to the upper departure level, checked me in at the normal check-in counters, then came downstairs to give me my boarding pass! But the whole episode left me disillusioned. Why the heck can’t they just have some computerized transfer desks where we can get our boarding passes for connecting flights? Really substandard procedure in a country which prides itself on its software capabilities.
Wonderful Airport and Its Services
I have been to Mumbai Airport many times. I have always encountered best services, food, and facilities. Every staff is friendly. Amazing!!! I would like to visit the airport again if I get the opportunity.
Improving To International Standards
I visited the airport in December 2008. After passing customs they only now have one big security control which is good, previously they had security checks at every gate. They have broken down some walls integrating the departure hall to one. This has made departure hall open and vivid with many new restaurants and shops. Even at arrivals hall the passport desks have increased in numbers with more staff working facilitating the arriving passengers. The baggage belt or conveyor belts are sub standards and need improvement. The arrivals hall is way to small. A lot of work is taking place to refurbish the airport. But the airport is too small to handle the amount of passengers using this airport.
Awful Airport
One piece of essential information you must know about this dire airport is that there are guards to get into the airport and you must present a current booking form so you cannot go to this airport the night before to sleep there if you have no accommodation, or like I had to, wait outside if you arrive too early. Also you cannot buy tickets on the day. I was told I must have a reservation and go away and get one. One member of staff helpful rest seem not to want you there. Will never fly to there or pass through ever again.
Security Checks Are Okay But Services Are Poor.
I have been to Mumbai CSI airport several times, in last few years. Technically ideal location, with enough security levels but still many other facilities are yet to implement especially if we are going global.
Airport Has Improved
The Mumbai CSI Airport has certainly improved. On my last two visits I have found marked improvement in services and facilities and yes, aesthetic appeal too! The airport has undergone some renovation work which has certainly shown, but I guess some more of it, after the privatization, will surely help enhance the image. Going by the International standards the airport is certainly not yet upto the mark. More work and efforts are expected.
Mumbai Airport
In my opinion the Mumbai Airpot is very dirty and unorganized. The ground staff at arrivals have attitude problems and are not professional. The toilet cleaners stay inside the toilet at all times and irritate passengers to give them tips and extra money. Very frustrating at times because of the staff.
Airport Info
It is poor, especially for a big city like Mumbai. It was privatised last week. The new operators are GVK, India and ACSA, South Africa.
Very good cleaning facility at Mumbai airport. I was traveled in Jan. 2019. There is multistory parking facility. All is well. I just likes.
