Roatan A Great Place!
Safety
This is the safest place I have ever been and have been 5 times in the last 4 years and plan to move down soon. Roatan is safer than the U.S.A. and the people there are friendly and take care of the tourists as that is their main source of income. Do not be afraid here.
Roatan Airport is a small airport. Most people there do speak English, and some do not. The people there are very friendly and willing to accommodate you any way they can. You do have to understand that this is NOT the US. I fly there often and as with most travel, there are delays and changes. I have arrived there before my actual time and no one there to pick me up. A kind employee from the rental car counter, who didn’t speak English, allowed me to use his cell phone. So phones shouldn’t be a problem. If you are traveling there the best service on the island is Roatan life Vacation Rentals. They will pick you up and give you all the details you need. They also provide you with a phone while you are there. Only $.10 min to call the US. My favorite area on the island is the West End area. If you’re a diver stop by Reef Glyders and say hello to Barb and John for me. Safe travels!
