BOA Approach
I was flying on 25th September to Boa Vista with Seagle Air Airbus 320. I can´t give you any information about the terminal infrastructure, because I stayed only on the ramp side, but I can give you details about the landing. Shortly before we approached the 2200 m long runway, a heavy rain shower flooded the runway. The communication with the tower was really professional and we flew over the runway to see what conditions had. After passing the runway we made our final from the opposite side on the flooded runway without any problems. The handling was good and all the time a fire truck was waiting next to us, so generally the service was good at BOA!
Rabil Airport
Wow! what an amazing little place this is. Visited on a Cape Verde Express Let last summer and found a tiny little building on he side of the runway. Despite its tiny size it is a fully functioning airport. Still, the staff were very nice and seem to cope very well with the handful of flights daily. Could do with some upgrading though, if it wants to attract more tourists. Would return!
A Strange Experience
Coming from a big city, this is a really strange experience: a tiny airstrip in the middle of nowhere. The airport building in just 20 x 15 meters, but actually it offers a small snack-bar, waiting area, info, strict security controls. All day long it seems like an empty barrack, but when a plane comes in ( 3 to 4 times per day ) the small building is full of people and seems to be like JFK airport.
Due to the weather conditions on Capo Verde, this airport does not need a fancy roof. The bathrooms are sufficiently clean, and there is almost everything you need: A teller machine, a snack bar, a shop and offices of both local airlines. In front of the tiny building, there are taxis (10.000 Escudos per trip to Sal Rei) and aluguers (1000 Escudos plus a little extra for the luggage per Person to Sal Rei).
