Carajas is a small airport carved out of the Amazon. The airport itself is nice and very simple to get around in. There is only one departure gate and one arrival gate/baggage check. There is not a great deal of seating but since most Brazilians don’t show up until ten minutes before departure that is usually not a problem. There is a small cafe offering very good local and Brazilian foods. If you fly into and out of Carajas be prepared for late departures and arrivals. (Even worse than the rest of the country.) Very rarely does a flight arrive or depart on time. Most times from one hour to two plus hours behind schedule. Show up early or you might find yourself without a ticket. Even with a reservation. There is an unspoken policy of selling your seat to someone willing to pay more than you did.
