I had the opportunity to fly in/out of KDH recently. As you land, taxi, and depart you roll across the expanse that is the ISAF KDR Airport. No photos please. As you near the Eastern edge of the taxiway KDH comes into site nestled behind blast barriers. Easy to do because it is only one story high. Probably built in the 1950’s, it has seen better days and could use a coat of paint. Small but functional, like when you used to fly into Palm Springs in your uncle’s plane back in the 70’s. Departing the plane was normal, all staff friendly and accommodating. Once inside the terminal we all gathered at one end of the hall and waited for about five minutes. There was a heavy ANP presence, to be expected. We were then ushered through to immigration which was fairly quick. Then on to baggage claim and customs, typical x-ray and you’re out. In the area out side the departure hall you will find an old garden that is in the process of restoration. It used to be quite nice and I am sure will be again. Once you reach the departure exit you are on the street, taxi stand to the right, garden and shaded waiting area directly across the small street, and private passenger pick up on your left. Comfortable there, not a heavy police presence, like your anywhere else, not a war zone. My driver was not allowed in to pick me up for some reason or other, so I walked out to the main road and met him without incident. It was about a 400 m walk. Then we drove off, figure the reverse out bound.
