Taxis are a great way of getting to and from Schiphol Airport. As the airport is located outside of Amsterdam, you can take a taxi to the city centre for around €45.
There are several official taxi operators within Amsterdam, so getting a licensed cab shouldn’t be a problem, however, there are often extra charges incurred such as luggage and public charges fees. This guide should provide all the information you need to make your trip as hassle free as possible.

Getting to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
As the international hub for the Netherlands, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is extremely busy with 2014 seeing 55 million passengers fly to nearly 300 destinations worldwide.
There are many transport options available to you, whether you are staying in Amsterdam city centre or in one of the surrounding towns. Getting a taxi is probably the most comfortable and convenient way to travel as you don’t need to work around public transport schedules or carry your heavy luggage.
Taxis in Amsterdam
You are able to hail cabs as you usually would back home, again just be sure that they are a licensed cab, that they have a meter and that they use it! To ensure you don’t get ripped off, head towards one of the many taxi ranks; only taxis with a valid taxi permit can queue at taxi ranks. The ranks are identified by the letter “T” to make them easy to spot.
While in some countries across the world a tip is expected, Amsterdam is similar to its European neighbours where a tip is completely optional. Usually visitors to Amsterdam may round their tip to the nearest Euro, but even that is up to the patron.
If you’re not satisfied with your trip or feel your driver gave you a poor service, you can call Taxi Klacht on 0900-202 1881 (between 09:00 and 17:00) to report your experience. You will need to provide the time and date of the incident, as well as the the taxi number or registration – this information can be found on your receipt.
Amsterdam Airport taxis
Only get a Schiphol taxi from the designated taxi rank outside the Arrivals hall. You may find plenty of drivers offering their taxi service inside the airport but they may be doing so illegally and may not even have a licensed taxi. The only exception to this is if you have booked in advance with one of the authorised taxi companies listed below;
- Taxicentrale Amsterdam
- Staxi
- Taxistad
- STA
- Taxi Direct Amsterdam
- My Taxi Centrale
- TCS Schipholtaxi
- TAXI-E Sustainable Taxi Services
- Aemstel Taxi
- AMS
Pre Booked Schiphol airport taxi drivers will wait for you in the arrivals hall and would usually have a ‘Meet & Greet’ sign with your name on it. They should ask for your flight details beforehand so they can keep track of your flight in case you are delayed. Pre booking a taxi is the best option for you as it is convenient and you can be dropped off right outside your destination.
