Gallery and Facts
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is owned by Infratil Ltd., the owners of the Wellington(link), Manston(link) and Whenuapai Airports(link). Although the story tells that the airport first started operating in 1934, historians have since discovered that there were aircraft on or near the site in around 1913, 10 years after the Wright Brothers first took to the air. The airport, which is Glasgow’s second airport, became the transatlantic gateway between the 1960’s and the 1980’s. The airport currently handles an average of 1 million passengers every year.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is the only Scottish railway connected airport and passengers arriving by “AirTrain” get 50% discount off their train journey. If business or leisure travellers prefer to get into airport using their own car, the parking facilities offered at Prestwick will meet any budget – visit Airport Parking Shop to get the best parking deal.

Airport Security
Prestwick Airport
GLASGOW PRESTWICK AIRPORT it states on the roof. But not Glasgow or even near Glasgow 35 mile from Glasgow. Handy for the Ayrshire people but not for anyone else. No public transport 25% of the day. No facilities for disabled or sensory handicapped. Cheap is what it is, but is it? We have had two flights since from Glasgow and from Manchester. everything taken into account, i.e. National Express Bus to Manchester and First bus two journey ticket from Cumberland to Glasgow airport. Our travel was no more expensive and we were warm, comfortable and treated with respect.
Re: Mr Ivor Story (below)
Quite a Story indeed Ivor! Before I write my PIK review I’d like to take a minute to comment on the review below. Ivor, you say you’ve used airports all over the WORLD. It really doesn’t sound like it at all. Unless you mean between Scotland and Magaluf or wherever you go for your 2 weeks in the sun. You seem to have taken issue with the entire airport staff! From security to passenger handling to the ground crew. Here’s some free advice; If the whole world is against you, maybe it’s because you are in the wrong! If you want to go shopping, go to a mall! If you want to catch a flight, go to an airport! I personally quite like the fact that I don’t have to walk for a mile between security and my gate just to filter me through a whole host of useless overpriced shops like I would in GLA or LHR. £4.50 for 3 cans of coke? Really? Are you sure? I believe you mean £2 for 2 bottles of coke? Pretty reasonable really? I don’t even think you can buy cans in the shop but I’ll check next time. As for your hand luggage, well, you are flying Ryanair! Hardly the airport’s fault if you’re on a budget is it? Maybe you should actually read the T&C before you fly? "Everyone is consumed with power." Lol. Maybe you should take a long hard look at your own attitude if you’re really rubbing up against people so much! The reason people are told to stay in line is to stop idiots barging their way to the front of the queue because Ryanair have a "Free seating" policy. But then again, maybe I’m just one of these "Ayrshire people sticking together against you".
Having read the remarks made about the staff at Prestwick Airport,I find them unfounded and offensive,I have travelled through this Airport on more than one occasion and have been treated with nothing but kindness and understanding (Security Staff Included). Having been fortunate enough to travel around the World i have been to Airports were you really are glad to get out of. For your information Glasgow Airport (not Prestwick) is not in Glasgow either but in Renfrewshire, and no I’m not from Ayrshire.
