We flew from Zanzibar to Tanga and the airport is still in excellent condition. No commercial airlines like before; all flights to Tanga are charter flights originating from DAR or ZNZ.
Tanga Airport is situated about 3 kilometres from the City centre, along the Tanga – Dar es Salaam/Arusha road. It has an asphalt runway that is 1,260 meters long and 31 meters wide. The airport is capable of handling small and medium sized planes such as Fokker Friendship types 27, 28 and 50. Presently, daily flights from Dar es Salaam via Zanzibar and Pemba are operated by Coastal Aviation Ltd. It uses a CESSNA 206 with a capacity of carrying 13 passengers. These flights mainly ferry business travelers to Tanga City and tourists to the nearby coastal resorts of Pangani District.
